Class “C” components, such as fasteners, tend to be the low  value items used in manufacturing.  However, they account for up to 80% of production inventory and can consume up to 50% of a purchasing manager’s time. Because a typical OEM company does not have the same leverage with “C” sources, they have difficulty receiving parts when they need them.  As a result, 80% of production down-time is related to stock-out of these “C” level items.
